Although a slight departure from usual topics on the blog, I was watching something the other day in which the following question was posed:

How will the volume of your days be measured?

The following was then suggested –

What will matter…..

…is not what you bought……but what you built

…is not what you got……but what you gave

…is not what you learned……but what you taught

….and how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.
Much of the above resonated with me and the more I think about them, the more they resonate. Both on a personal level, as a husband, father, brother, son and on a professional level as a coach, those comments ring true. When I come to finish my days, if I can feel that I built relationships based on trust and honesty, a coaching philosophy based on integrity, if I gave my very best and managed to leave a positive legacy to those around me, then I will be happy to have the volume of my days measured in this way.

Sometimes it’s useful to cut through the junk and consider what it is that matters…
